Program Information

The Culinary Arts program at the Tuscola Technology Center provides students with a realistic introduction to the food and beverage industry. They will rotate through a series of jobs learning specific skills in each area. There is an opportunity to earn several industry certifications through ServSafe and ProStart.  Students will receive work experience in local businesses. There are opportunities to compete in State and National competitions. Industry professionals serve as mentors and participate in class. We teach the ProStart curriculum, which sets the National standards for high school culinary arts.

Career Pathways

Following one or two years in this program, you may find employment in restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and commercial food service.

You may continue your education at a college or culinary arts school to prepare yourself for a career in travel service, lodging management or food beverage management.

College Credit and Articulation

One of the ways the Tuscola Technology Center is able to help students make the successful transition from high school to college is by offering articulated college credit. The technical skills and knowledge a student learns can save tuition fees, shorten the time a student spends in college and reduces the duplication of courses at the college level. To receive articulated credit a student needs good grades, good attendance and be able to demonstrate that they have the maturity to bypass the college level courses.

Students have the opportunity to earn college credit with several Michigan Colleges. Colleges participating in the articulation include: Baker College - Culinary Institute of Michigan, Delta College, Mott Community College, and Sullivan University.

Work Placement Opportunities

Work experience and internships in area businesses are a highlight of this program. Second year students are given an opportunity to complete co-op experiences. Students may earn credit and experience working in area businesses.

 

Advisory Committees

The Tuscola Technology Center is fortunate to have community and business leaders involved in the success of our students.

The committee members are professionals in business and industry as well as counselors and teachers from Tuscola County. Their input is vital in assuring that our students receive industry standard instruction in their field of study.
