Program Information
Professions in Education/Early Childhood are very rewarding. They offer young adults opportunities to impact future generations. Students will have experience working in a licensed child care center/preschool and local classrooms that serve children and their families. Some of these include day care centers, elementary programs, preschools, Head Start and GSRP classrooms, as well as home day cares.

Special Class Features and Certifications
Hours obtained through course-work and hours accumulated working in the preschool program may be applied toward obtaining the CDA (Child Development Association) credential.
Students will receive CPR/First Aid and AED training.
Students will also be trained in Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse and Neglect, Confidentiality, Mandated Reporting, Bullying, and Internet Safety.
Students who successfully complete one year and are at least 17 years of age, may be employed in a licensed child care center in Michigan.

Student Organizations & Competitions
Students may become members of SkillsUSA, which allows students to demonstrate their occupational and leadership skills. Students have the opportunity to attend and compete at three levels: regional, state, and national.

Students who successfully complete the program may work as aides or teacher assistants in child care centers or start a day care home provider business.
Many community colleges and universities offer further training toward an associates or bachelor degree depending on the student's goal or interest.

College Credit and Articulation
One of the ways the Tuscola Technology Center is able to help students make the successful transition from high school to college is by offering articulated college credit. The technical skills and knowledge a student learns can save tuition fees, shorten the time a student spends in college and reduces the duplication of courses at the college level. To receive articulated credit a student needs good grades, good attendance and the ability to demonstrate that they have the maturity to bypass the college level courses.
Students have the opportunity to earn college credit with several Michigan Colleges. Colleges participating in the articulation include: Davenport University, Delta College, Mott College, Mid Michigan Community College, and Baker College.

Work Placement Opportunities
Students obtain on-the-job training at TTC's preschool program, Rainbow Child Care Center. Additional work experience in area early childhood education programs are a highlight of this program. First year students may be given an opportunity to complete a work experience placement and second year students may complete co-op experiences. Programs that have provided these experiences include:Highland Pines School, Kids Club Day Care and Preschool Inc., Small Wonders Day Care Inc., Tuscola County GSRP Programs, Head Start, Elementary Schools, Day Care Centers, and Day Care Home Providers.

Advisory Committees
The Tuscola Technology Center is fortunate to have community and business leaders involved in the success of our students.
The committee members are professionals in childcare and the human services industry as well as counselors and teachers from Tuscola County. Their input is vital in assuring that our students receive industry standard instruction in their field of study.
In addition, Advisory Members in the Professions in Education/Early Childhood program offer our students work experiences, co-op, and community service opportunities at their business or facility. We greatly appreciate their commitment to our students.
