GENERAL INFORMATION
The following information is provided as a resource for you to use. The T.I.S.D. serves nine local school districts covering 1,000 square miles. There are 14,000 K-12 membership with 1,300 nonpublic schools. The ISD operates a technical center and a center for the handicapped and is the fiscal agent for REMC 10, the Drug-Free Schools and Community Program, and the Health Education Program for Tuscola, Sanilac, and Huron ISDs.
GRIEVANCEPROCEDURE
Grievances may be filed by students, parents, and employees of the Tuscola Intermediate School District for alleged noncompliance with provisions of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975.
All grievances shall be addressed, in writing, to the Superintendent of the Tuscola Intermediate School District, 1385 Cleaver Road, Caro, MI 48723. The Compliance Officer, after investigation, shall inform the complainant of the results of the investigation and the action taken within thirty (30) calendar days after receipt of such complaint. If the complainant is not satisfied with the report of the Compliance Officer, the complainant shall file an appeal, in writing, with the School Board within twenty (20) calendar days after receipt of the report of the Compliance Officer. The School Board shall, within twenty (20) calendar days of receipt of the written request, hold a hearing to determine what, if any, remedies are necessary to eliminate practices that are deemed discriminatory. The School Board shall notify the complainant, in writing, of its decision within ten (10) calendar days of the date of the hearing.
